POLITICAL SYSTEM Ghana is a multi-party, constitutional democracy. The current constitution was promulgated by a national referendum held on 28th April 1992, and approved to come into effect on 7th January 1993. The Constitution is currently undergoing review, but it reflects the concept of Separation of Powers and sets out the respective powers and functions of the Executive, the Legislature and the Judiciary. It contains specific rights, duties, declarations and guarantees relating to the fundamental human rights and freedoms, including “others not specifically mentioned which are considered to be inherent in a democracy and intended to secure the freedom and dignity of man.” |
